Places to See

Although Costa Rica is a small country, there are an endless number of places to see. Depending on your interests, explore some of the 160 parks, reserves and conservation areas, or visit one of the most active volcanoes in the world. San Jose and Cartago, among other cities, house some of the country's most interesting cultural attractions, including the Gold Museum and the National Theater.  Butterfly gardens and other natural history museums like serpentariums and ranarios (snake and frog museums) allow for close observation of Costa Rica’s wildlife, and provide good places to visit on rainy days.
